SUN OUTAGES MAY DISRUPT SERVICE

Submitted by ContentAdmin on Thu, 02/06/2014 - 12:04

FSM Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC) would like to inform all customers that you may experience brief disruptions in service in March due to a seasonal technical phenomenon called "sun outage." For a period of about two weeks, the sun causes "solar interference" to all geostationary satellite signals. The outage could disrupt calls to and from places within the FSM.

What do I do if I get an obscene or harassing call?

FSM laws prohibit anyone from making obscene or harassing calls. If you ever receive such calls: (1) Hang up at the first obscene word or if the caller remains silent after the second time you say hello. (2) don’t talk to the caller or give any information. (3) Call the police if you feel threatened. Be prepared to tell the day and time of each call, the caller’s gender, voice, accents or comments.

Can I forward calls to a cellphone number? What are the charges?

YES. A customer pays $6.00 one-time fee and $0.50 monthly to enable his landline phone to perform call forwards. The $0.50 monthly payment is not to cover per call charges. If the call forward was to another local landline then there is no additional per call charges. All call forwards to long distance, international and cell phones are charged according to the current approved tariffs. For example, your landline phone will be charged $0.10 per minute for each call if calls were forwarded to a cellphone.

When I make a long distance call, am I still charged if an answering machine receives my call?

Long distance telephone calls are charged for the duration of connect time. Charging does not start until the called party answers or until an answering machine, fax machine, computer modem, or other electronic device "answers" the call. Our telephone system cannot discern the difference between these devices nor identify the called person. If a fax machine or modem "answers" the call, a certain amount of time is initially spent establishing a connection. This time is included in your charges.
